Wexler to appear on Animal Planet
One of our own on Animal Planet! Watch this too cute for words pup as he stars on Animal Planet March 22, 2014. His stage name for the show may be Gus. Don't miss it!
Wexler was one of eleven pups in his litter and that number presented a problem for his Mother in terms of feeding. So, from birth, three of the German shepherd pups were placed with a Labrador Mom who also just had a litter, but smaller. Everything worked out and Wexler in essence was raised by a Labrador until he joined our household at eight weeks of age.
The Animal Planet show, Too Cute, was doing a story about a Seeing Eye litter and they happened to choose the Labrador litter that had Wexler and two of his shepherd litter mates as a part of it. Animal Planet followed the progress of the litter until the pups were about 12 weeks old. The segment featuring The Seeing Eye litter will air on March 22 at 8:00pm EDT (Good idea to check the time if you decide to watch.) on Animal Planet's show Too Cute!
Wexler will have a "lead role" so watch for him. He will not be known as Wexler on the show but rather was given a "Stage name". So when you see the German shepherd that is featured you will know it is Wexler!
Hope you get the chance to watch, I think you will find the story and photography very enjoyable
It Passed! Dusty's Law to protect Guide Dogs, owners and puppy raisers - now we must get it through the Senate! See how you can help below!
We have great news! Dusty's Law (S1907/A2728) passed through the New Jersey Senate Law and Public Safety Committee last week. That means it can come up for a vote by the full Senate!
Dusty's Law would enable police to intervene when a guide dog, guide-dog team, or guide dog in training is attacked by an aggressive dog. Under current law, police aren’t required to respond to attacks on guide dogs -- only animal control officers, who often aren't available during evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Dusty's Law is named after a nine-month-old puppy who was being raised to be a Seeing Eye dog, but those hopes were destroyed when he was viciously attacked by a loose dog. The attack seriously injured Dusty and left him unable to begin training as a Seeing Eye dog. His volunteer puppy raiser also lost the tip of a finger trying to defend Dusty during the unprovoked attack.
We are asking all friends of The Seeing Eye who live in New Jersey to please contact Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney at [email protected] or (856) 251-9801 and urge him to place S1907 on the schedule for a Senate vote on December 20, 2012. Please let Senator Sweeney know why this is such an important issue for our graduates and puppy raisers! Dog attacks from loose or uncontrolled dogs can be a dangerous and frightening experience, and Dusty's Law offers greater protection for guide dog teams and dogs in training
Kudos to Team Fallon - They raised over $4,000 by participating in the 18 mile Gran Fondo Bicycle Race of 2012
A big thank you and congratulations to Bob Jenkins, Lori DeMarco AND their supporters for raising over $4,000 for The Seeing Eye. The generosity and kindness of people like Bob and Lori is sincerely appreciated and embodies the spirit and very foundation of the Seeing Eye Organization.
One of our own has received the 2012 Person of the Year WCLEF Award - Roger Woodhour -
“He has worked tirelessly to provide a positive impact on the quality of education in our community and has instilled a sense of compassion and selflessness in the children that will last a lifetime.”
Two years ago, Woodhour and Dusty -- the Seeing Eye puppy he was raising -- were attacked. Although Dusty recovered physically, the psychological damage ended his training....click here for the entire article - The Clliffview Pilot
